LIGHTBULB MOMENT
I found, what I think, is a good business idea that capitalizes on my 17 years of experience as a teacher and provides value to the world. I can create a solution for kids that may struggle as they enter into their formal education. Did you know that a study in the UK suggests that more than half of the kids that are beginning school these days do not come to school with the basic school readiness skills that they need to be successful?
KIDS ARE NOT READY TO BE SUCCESSFUL (SORRY, IT’S TRUE)
Here’s Why:
Kids do not know how to hold and use a pair of scissors.
They do not know how to hold or manipulate a pencil.
Letters of the alphabet? ….. good luck.
The sounds the letters make (or even some of them)?… you’ll need even more luck.
And what about the social and emotional skills that kids should have begun to develop by ages 5 or 6? BIG SOLID ……..you guessed it…
…..NOPE!
Or, what about working in a group effectively (taking turns, using please and thank-you, being kind to group members, following the rules of engagement).
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME… NO WAY,
Survey says, FORGET ABOUT IT.
BUT WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT IT?
I am not advocating for kids to be NOT kids. I want them to have fun, explore, be curious, and to take appropriate risks that will fuel their independence, curiosity, and excitement for the world around them. To play games, to win, to lose, to solve problems.
The world has changed. Parents are busy, the internet is killing connected family time and opportunities for learning that allow kids to succeed in things other than video games. Lockdowns! (that is a social experiment, right there, the impact on a generation of kids has been severe, I know firsthand from being in the classroom every day working with kids)
ENTER DOVER CLIFFS PUBLISHING COMPANY (that’s me)
This is where I come in with my nifty business idea that can help solve this problem. My workbooks and activity books offer opportunities for kids to engage with the world around them.
Each book:
– is designed with high entertainment value
– offers opportunities to practice and refine pedagogically important school readiness skills
– provides opportunities for risk-taking
– provides opportunities for repetition in order to consolidate the skill set being presented
– options to form and maintain community
– has motivational and inspirational messages throughout
HE’S A SMART COOKIE, NOT JUST A HANDSOME LAD, THAT’S FOR SURE!
So,
I identified a problem,
I offered a solution with KDP and Amazon.
Finally, I got to the point,
Aren’t those the things I NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL AS AN ENTREPRENEUR IN 2022?
According to the famous youtube sensation Ali Abdal, I have checked off the boxes of the first few items necessary to make it big! Yay ME.
BUT NOT YET
Obviously, I can’t be helpful to people if they do not know about me or my products. That is a challenge I haven’t figured out yet. I don’t have the cash to drop on ads that I have no idea how to set up so they work. I know my products have a demand as other people with inferior products to mine sell THOUSANDS of dollars each month in the same NICHE.
I need a runaway hit, I need to social media the hell out of my stuff, and annoy all my friends.
And, I really have no bloody idea at all how to get my books in front of the eyes of the people who will need them without destroying my credit report?
This will be a journey that you can join me on, as it is the whole point of this blog, and soon-to-be youtube channel…..

All of that work will be nothing without my products, which I self-publish on KDP.
SO WHAT is SELF-PUBLISHING ON KDP?
KDP or Kindel Direct Publishing is:
– a digital platform where you can keep control of your rights
– a marketplace where you can earn up to 70 percent commission (this is according to their website, it has never happened to me so far)
– a marketplace to sell your books to an existing SEVERAL BILLION person customer base on Amazon in either digital or print format
– a print and distribution system where your book can make it to print and be sent out to the customer within 24-72 hours of approval by the algorithm, or an actual Amazonian
– free to submit your book: money is only paid to Amazon for printing costs abuilt-innd their cut of the profit when a book is sold, and your commission is deposited right into your bank account at the end of each month
It’s a great spot to start, as the barrier to entry is low, and I have a market built in. I can use it as a jumping-off spot for the fictional books that I am writing and hopefully if I time it right I can capitalize by using the demographic that my workbooks and activity books are aimed at to build a customer base to buy my books.
I now have the opportunity to I diversify my income streams. I can capitalize on my educational background with kids to market my products, and I can help those kids that need a boost.
It is just ready to explode.

Let’s Hope that KDP is the place I need to start at, that my products are useful and can change the lives of little kids one page at a time.
